A celebration of Dorothy E. Henning's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at First Presbyterian Church, 939 B Street, Petaluma. Mrs. Henning died on Oct. 3, 2009 at the age of 89.
A native of Petaluma, Ms. Henning grew up on the family ranch on Lakeville Highway. She attended the University of California, Davis and earned a degree in home economics. She was active in Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
During World War II, she married an Air Force sergeant, and spent many years traveling the world and raising her children in Germany, Japan, France and several bases state side.
For 75 years, she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Petaluma, and was always available to sit the children during services. She was a substitute teacher at many of Sonoma County elementary and preschools.
Her most recent endeavor was learning to play the guitar.
Ms. Henning is survived by her children, Russ Henning of Rohnert Park, Donna Henning of Petaluma, Sally Brueggert of Illionis, Bruce Henning, George Henning, and James Henning, all of Petaluma; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeville Volunteer Fire Deptartment, First Presbyterian Church of Petaluma or The American Cancer Society.
